Since CBS This Morning had the services of Martha Stewart, NBC's Today Show felt they needed an expert at entertaining guests. To that end, they hired Agatha Wetworth, a thin, late-fortyish blonde of plain appearance with credentials similar to Martha Stewart's.
The first segment with her was to be taped on what turned out to be a hot, humid summer Saturday. Jodi Applegate, the cute brunette who anchors the show's weekend edition was chosen for the assignment. Realizing the temperature that day, Jodi chose to wear a yellowish suit with an above-the-knee skirt and matching pumps since it would be a bit cooler than the pantsuits she usually wore for the program.
Jodi and the TV crew arrived at the Wetworth mansion and were promptly greeted by Agatha. The TV people were escorted to the backyard, near the swimming pool, where a table was set up. As soon as the camera and sound gear was set up, the segment started.
Mrs. Wetworth began, "Do you know that you don't need to spend a lot of money to make pool decorations for your parties?" Jodi responded that she did not. "Actually," Wetworth explained, "it is quite simple. Look at this piece of styrofoam. We can use this to make a floating candle holder that looks like a lily pad." With MacGuyver-like resourcefulness, some old green trashbag material, wire coathangers, a candle, and an old glass, a lily-pad candle took shape. Then Wetworth lit it and set it in the pool.
Next, a duck lawn ornament was turned into a duck pool decoration with a few fishing sinkers tied to the feet for ballast. Jodi was quite impressed.
The segment ended and the TV crew left.
"How come you're not leaving with the crew?" Wetworth asked.
"This is the last bit of work I had to do before I leave on vacation. My husband will be stopping by to pick me up soon." Jodi answered.
As Jodi and Agatha were continuing their conversation, a car pulled up. It was Jodi's husband. He was dressed casually in a shortsleeve shirt and dockers. Jodi then introduced him to Agatha.
"Before I go," Jodi asked, "I have a question. How do you get the ornaments out of the pool? That candle thing looks a bit too fragile for a pool net."
"Well, you're right about that," Wetworth replied, "but there are a couple of ways. If it is a windy day, the wind will blow all the stuff to one side of the pool and you can scoop them up. Then, of course, on a hot day like today, you and your guests can make fun out of the job by jumping into the pool and getting them."
Jodi mentioned "That would be a good idea if it was a pool party, and a swim on a hot day would be refreshing, but what if no one has swimsuits?"
"That makes it even more fun then!" Wetworth answered.
With that, she jumped right into the pool without removing a thing, not even her glasses. As she surfaced and started swimming around, Jodi's husband was watching in amazement. Then Jodi noticed him watching.
"What is going on?" Jodi angrily whispered. "That woman, who wouldn't raise anybody's eyebrows anywhere jumps in a pool and she has your undivided attention! Well..."
"Honey," he explained, "it's the oddity of it. It is unusual for a woman in a long green summer dress to jump in and go swimming fully clothed like that. I am not attracted to her!"
Jodi asked "Well, what would you do if a woman you thought was attractive dove in?"
"I don't know," he answered. I don't see that kind of thing much."
Jodi walked away in a huff, but got an idea. She walked over to the diving board, removed her shoes, and got on it.
"Hey!" she yelled, "Get a load of this!"
Jodi then executed a perfect dive into the pool and leisurely swam underwater a distance before surfacing. Reaching the surface, Jodi realized that clothed swimming was much more pleasant than she thought, especially on a hot day. She also noticed her husband's reaction - he was surprised and turned on all at once.
Sensing the inevitable, Jodi's husband removed his watch and wallet and proceeded to the poolside. Reaching down to help Jodi out, he managed to fake a fall and landed in the pool. He stayed under a few seconds to admire the view. He had never seen her quite like this before, her jacket bobbing and her skirt up at the top of her thighs. He then surfaced, running his hand along her as he did. On the surface, he exclaimed "Now you know what I think! And now..." He then proceeded to give Jodi a long kiss and the two of them slowly submerged, only to surface a second later, spitting water.
"It looks so easy in the movies," Jodi complained. Her husband removed his shirt and tried to remove Jodi's jacket, but she resisted. Jodi had discovered that her blouse was now very translucent and clearly revealed her bra.
Catching the commotion, Mrs. Wetworth said "Go ahead. I've seen lots of women at these type of parties who wear less underneath." Reassured, Jodi removed her jacket but left everything else on.
Soon, it was time to leave. Mrs Wetworth gave Jodi and her husband plastic material to cover the car seats to protect them from damage and the couple left.
As they were driving off, Jodi mentioned "You know, we are going to have to rinse the chlorine out of this suit or it will get damaged..."
"True," her husband responded, "and I believe I have an idea as to how to do it..."
Their next wet adventure (a trip to the shower) accomplished that, but they probably were not fully-clothed for long.
