It was a warm summer Friday morning when Ann Curry, the attractive Amerasian woman on NBC's "Today" show arrived with a TV crew at a lake outside New York City. The occasion for this trip was not to give Ann a chance to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine (though she did just that), but to shoot a "Gadget Guru" segment with their new Gadget Guru. Normally, such segments are done outside the "Today" show studio in the city, but the item being demonstrated was big and needed lots of space.
Ann, wearing a smart business suit consisting of a navy blue above-the-knee skirt, matching blazer, white blouse, and a pair of black pumps, was standing near the shore of the lake next to a rather unusual looking sport utility vehicle (SUV) with the Gadget Guru. The cameras started rolling.
"What's this?" Ann asked.
"Well," the man replied, "you know how SUVs are billed as 'go anywhere' vehicles and they are always seen going up rocky hills, muddy trails, and what not? The one place you never see them is in a lake or river. That is because they would sink. But, Ann, that is not the case with this - the Aqua-SUV."
"Interesting. How do they keep it from sinking?"
"They do it," the man explained, "by making the bottom of the SUV as a sealed unit." Ann and the man crouched down to take a closer look and the cameraman pointed his camera under the SUV. "As you can see," he continued, "the only holes are where the wheels are, but they are sealed the same way as a propeller shaft on a boat is. Want to take a ride?"
"Why not?" With that, Ann and the Gadget Guru got into the SUV. Looking at the interior, Ann commented "Nice. A little plain, but quite good." The Guru started the engine. But before they could move more than a few inches, the sound man was waving for them to stop.
The audio man yelled "No good. As soon as you got into the truck, we lost the signal from the mike. Looks like this thing is a good radio shield. Let's just leave the door open and take a look inside. Then, we can close it and let him drive it in the lake."
Exiting the SUV, Ann responded "Sounds good to me."
After the shots showcasing the interior of the SUV and getting some more info, the doors were closed and the Gadget Guru drove the Aqua-Suv right into the lake as Ann and the crew watched. Then, they thought they heard a small bump. Perhaps the Aqua-Suv hit a floating log or something. But, those SUVs are supposed to be tough, so no one was concerned. When it got to the other side of the lake and drove out, the crew decided they had shot enough tape and turned off their equipment.
As it was making the return trip, the Aqua-Suv seemed to be riding lower and lower. Finally, about 100 feet from shore, the engine sputtered and died. Then, things got worse as the vehicle actually began to sink, slowly at first, but going faster. In a matter of seconds, it slipped beneath the surface.
Ann, shocked at what happened, started yelling. "Come on!" she exclaimed, "Won't one of you do something? He's in trouble out there!"
"Sorry Ann." replied the cameraman. "I can't swim."
The audio man explained "I just got back from the hospital after a real bad sinus infection. If I go in, I'll get sick again and if I use any more sick time, I'm out of a job."
After muttering some Japanese swear words under her breath, Ann took her cell phone and handed it to the cameraman. "Here! You call 911 and stay on the phone with them." Pointing to the audio man "You get over by the road and wait for the ambulance."
"What are you going to do?" asked the cameraman.
"Something you two don't have the guts to do!" Ann shot back. She then removed her blazer and ran along the dock. As she reached the end, her stomach began to knot. It was only several weeks ago when Ann took that course to control her fear of deep water. Now the fear was resurfacing. Ann thought to herself "If I chicken out, that man could die. Can't let that happen." Taking a deep breath, Ann dove off the end of the dock and started heading to the sunken SUV.
As Ann entered the water, her outfit was instantly soaked through. Fortunately, it was nice and warm so she wasted no time in shock from the change of temperature. As she was swimming towards the sunken vehicle, Ann noticed her fear - instead of intensifying - was fading like it was being diluted. Another sensation, a pleasant one, was taking hold and Ann wasn't sure why. Perhaps it was the feeling of the water moving in and around her blouse. Maybe it was the way her skirt rubbed against her hosiery covered legs. Maybe it was just a rush from the adrenaline.
Ann soon arrived and saw that the SUV landed on the bottom upright and that it wasn't too far down. Taking a deep breath, she dove down to attempt a rescue. "Hope the camera isn't on..." thought Ann as her lovely legs slid beneath the surface. "I'm not in the mood to expose that much leg on TV!"
Down at the SUV, Ann could see that there was still quite a bit of air inside, but water was starting to come in. The driver was panicking. Ann motioned that she was going to try to open the door. However, despite pulling on it for all she was worth, the water pressure made it impossible to even budge it. Running out of air, Ann quickly swam to the surface for another breath.
Diving back down, Ann had an idea. If she could smash a window, that would let in the water and equalize the pressure. But what could be used to smash the window? A quick examination showed no sign of large rocks on the botton and the SUV's tire iron, which would be the perfect tool for this, was inside the SUV with the spare. If only she had something that could concentrate the blow to small point, like a punch. A quick glance at her feet gave Ann the answer. One of her pumps fell off at some point, but she still had the other one. If she could brace herself, she could kick her heel into the glass and possibly shatter it. Time was running out, so Ann got into position and tried it.
Ann tried again, grabbing the roof rack extra hard to brace herself. This time, the she felt the glass give a little. The next kick shattered the glass and the water rushed into the vehicle, sucking Ann inside in the process.
The window she went in through was on the passenger side, so Ann quickly swam over to the now panic-stricken driver and undid his seat belt. Then, she opened the door and pushed the driver out through it. However, in his panicked state, he started grabbing at Ann as she followed him out. Ann realized that it would be difficult to swim to the surface with him clinging to her, so she pushed him away. Her now-untucked blouse, which he was grabbing her by, started to rip. But Ann got free and they both swam to the surface, where they emerged gasping for breath.
As they were treading water, Ann found the sensation of being in the water like this next to a man to be oddly exciting. She then wondered how he felt about. The Gadget Guru then turned to Ann and said "Thanks for saving my life!"
Ann replied "You're welcome. And now, for grabbing me..." With that, Ann hauled up and slapped him quite hard. "Don't you ever touch me like that again! You were pawing me like an animal!"
"I'm sorry," he apologized, "I got panicked. Honest. I wasn't trying to grope you."
Thinking for a second, Ann responded "Apology accepted. Now let's head for shore." The both of them headed for shore, with the Gadget Guru a faster swimmer than Ann. Evidently, he was anxious to get out of this situation. Ann was keeping a steady stroke some distance behind.
As the Gadget Guru was being pulled out of the water, Ann stopped and glanced down at herself. Strangely enough, despite the rescue activities, her pantyhose had no snags or runs. Her skirt was bobbing at mini-skirt level and offered no real impediment. Then she saw her blouse. The white garment was now totally translucent and revealed her bra. It also sported a large rip which exposed some skin. At that second, the people on the shore were yelling out to Ann asking if she was all right. She realized she couldn't come ashore looking like this. If someone got a picture or video of it, she could get into some trouble. Ann just shouted back "I'm fine! Take care of him." and slowly swam to the dock.
Just before Ann got to the dock, the Gadget Guru left with the rescue squad and the TV crew were packing their gear. Then Ann briefly overheard the technicians.
"Wow! Did you see Ann out there? All this time I've worked with her and had no idea she had such a great body."
"Yeah! Too bad we didn't get it on camera!"
"Just as well. If we did and she found out about it, she'd have us fired and then she would sue us for harassment or something."
Ann suppressed a chuckle. At least they didn't get a picture. They did all right today. As she stopped at the dock, Ann yelled out to one of the technicians "Could you do me a favor? While you still have my cell phone, call my husband and tell him to stop up here and pick me up. Thanks."
The technician complied and left Ann's phone next to her now folded blazer before he and his partner got in the TV truck and drove off. A short while later, since Ann's husband had the day off from his job, he arrived at the lake. He was dressed casually in a polo shirt and dockers. Seeing Ann in the water, he ran onto the dock and crouched near the edge.
"Honey!" he shouted, "Are you all right?"
Ann replied "Yes. I'm okay." Then she told him the story about the SUV sinking and how she rescued the driver.
"That was a very brave thing you did today," her husband mentioned, "and I am quite proud of you. Looks like you got over your fear in a big way."
"I sure did! Wait... I see something..." With that, Ann did a quick dive to the bottom and retrieved the shoe that fell off earlier and put it back on. As she surfaced, she commented "One bad thing about it. That nice romantic lunch we had planned for today is off. I can't go into town looking like this!"
"You're right." Ann's husband replied. "The effect on the male population would be devastating!"
"What do you mean?" Ann shot back. "I'm a total mess! What makes you think this is attractive?"
"Ann," he explained, "think about it. As you are treading water there, I can see your skirt has ridden up quite a bit and revealed lots of your lovely legs. Then, there is your blouse... or what is left of it. It reveals your great body, yet covers it at the same time. And, when you get out of the water, all that is going to cling to you like shrinkwrap and show what a nice figure you have."
Ann responded with a smile and "Oh, really... Still, I think I should get out now before the towing people come to retrieve the SUV. No sense in 'distracting' them from their job." Then Ann climbed out onto the dock with some help from her husband, and Ann's wardrobe behaved as predicted.
As her husband picked up her jacket and cell phone, the phone chirped. Ann took the phone and answered it. It was her bosses at the network. They heard about what happened and Ann filled them in on the situation. "Glad that no one was hurt. After what you did, we're giving you the rest of the day off. You earned it."
Ann answered "Thank you! Could you do me a small favor?"
"Sure. What is it."
"I don't want what happened today to be publicized. I feel a bit uncomfortable."
"Understood. No problem. Now enjoy the weekend!" The phone went dead.
As she was putting the phone away, Ann told her husband "That was the network. I have the whole day off. Still, it is a shame we couldn't have that lunch together."
Her husband responded "Well, I have an idea. You go to that picnic table in the shade over there and wait for me. I'll be back." Then he walked off to his car and left. Ann, a bit puzzled, made her way over to the picnic table and sat there, enjoying the nice soft breeze. A few minutes later, the towing company showed up and Ann quietly watched the team work to retrieve the sunken vehicle.
A little while later, as the towing crew was winching the sunken SUV up, Ann's husband returned. He was carrying an old blanket he kept in the car for some vague emergency purpose and a bag from a local fast food place. Spreading the blanket on the picnic table, he set down the bag and said "Lunch is served".
Ann, still very damp from her swim, started eating. "How nice!" she stated.
"Well, I figured a picnic together would be almost as good as what we originally had planned." Ann's husband replied. "While it may not be as formal as eating in that bistro, it sure is romantic, seeing the woman I love in an outfit that is both revealing and covering."
"You really like this, don't you?"
"Yes."
After eating and looking into each other's eyes, Ann's husband suggested a walk along the lakeshore. The towing crew finished their job and left with the wreck some time ago and now the couple had the area to themselves. They then started walking, with Ann's husband carrying the blanket and Ann's jacket.
Arriving at a secluded part of the lake, Ann turned to her husband and said "Honey, I've got a crazy idea I'm sure you're going to love! Since I'm still quite damp and you really seem to enjoy this, why don't I just..." With that Ann got up on a nearby rock and did a shallow dive into the lake.
When she surfaced, she glanced at her husband and saw that he was shocked - but extremely happy with this development. Then Ann's husband removed his watch, wallet, shoes, and socks and dove in himself. Surfacing next to Ann, he said "Wow! This feels great! True, I don't look as good wet as you do, but it's fun!"
Ann reached down, removed her shoes, and tossed them ashore. "I know, they're probably already ruined, but I can swim much better without them." she explained. She then started swimming out into the lake with her husband close behind. Once in deeper water, Ann took a breath and dove down for some underwater swimming. Her skirt had ridden up almost the whole length of her legs and her blouse came untucked and exposed her trim midriff. Her husband was watching from the surface and liked what he saw.
As Ann was back on the surface catching her breath, her husband said "Are you sure none of your ancestors on your mother's side were Ama divers? You were fabulous under there. A real live mermaid."
Grinning playfully, Ann replied "I don't think there are any. Now, let's see how you do." Then she dove back down. This time, her husband took a deep breath and followed her. They frolicked underwater and tried an underwater kiss. With their mouths full of water and lungs full of stale air, they then swam back to the surface.
"That was fun!" Ann exclaimed "Too bad it took me so long to discover this."
"Yeah..." replied her husband. Glancing at Ann's tattered blouse, he added "That looks pretty bad."
"It is. I could understand though. He was panicking and grabbed at me to use me as a floatation device. But I can't fix it."
"That gives me an idea. Let's go down again."
They both dove down. Once submerged, Ann's husband peeled the torn blouse off her and was going to let it sink. But he didn't want to be a litterbug, so he just held on to it. This left Ann in her bra and skirt. Surprisingly, Ann's bra was quite opaque. No danger of revealing anything too raunchy.
Once back on the surface, Ann's husband commented. "You know, you could have removed the blouse before you dove in to rescue that guy. What you have on there is no more revealing, in fact it is a bit less revealing, than most bikini tops."
"Honey, you know I don't normally wear two-pieces. Besides, with the way that guy was grabbing, it would have only been more embarassing and I could have wound up exposing a whole lot more."
"Oh well. I have an idea. Give me your skirt."
"Huh?"
"You'll see..."
"Well..." Ann responded. She then gently removed her skirt and was left in her undergarments and pantyhose. To her great surprise, her panties turned out to be quite opaque. Then, she handed the skirt to her husband.
"Okay..." he replied. Then he swam for shore and got out. Ann was wondering if this was some kind of prank or something. Once onshore, Ann's husband put her soaked skirt on a large flat rock. He then removed his shirt and pants, leaving him in just his dark boxers, and put them on the rock also. Once that was done, he jumped back into the lake and swam out to Ann.
"What was that all about?" Ann asked.
"Well, this way, we can continue to enjoy ourselves in the lake while our clothes dry. Also, if anyone should happen to walk past the lake and see us, we will look like a couple in swimwear. After all, what you have on now makes a nice bikini."
"But we would still have to dry ourselves off when we got out."
"True. That is why I brought that old blanket with us. We can use it like a towel. Besides, the stuff we're wearing now will dry pretty quickly. Now let's have some fun!"
Ann and her husband spent quite a bit of time in the lake, diving down and swimming along the bottom, doing some simple aquabatics, pulling each other under, and just floating around. They were having a wonderful time.
Eventually, it was time to get out. Just as Ann's husband predicted, the clothes on the rock were dry. Taking the old blanket, they towelled off and found a nice shady spot to relax as a nice gentle breeze helped in drying them off. A short time later, they were completely dry and got dressed.
Looking at her blouse, Ann commented, "Can't wear this. It's ruined."
"I know," replied her husband, "but it was already a total loss before our swim today. That's why you had no objections when I tore it off. Besides, if you button that blazer right, no one will notice that you are not wearing a blouse. They'll just think it's a business suit with a low neckline. You'll look fine."
With that, Ann put her jacket back on and buttoned it up. Then Ann and her husband walked back to the car for the trip home.
When they got to the house, Ann's husband said "I still feel bad about not taking you to a nice lunch like I promised. So, I'm going to make it up to you and take you out to dinner tonight, especially since you have the day off. To that nice place you like so much!"
"Great!" Ann replied. After looking at the time, she continued, "We've got plenty of time to get ready."
Ann and her husband soon got changed into more appropriate attire for an evening out. Ann was wearing a nice black dress and her husband wore a suit and tie. They then left and went to the restaurant where they had an excellent meal. After this fine evening out, the couple arrived back at home.
As they were getting out of their outfits, Ann, standing there still in her black full slip and hose, said "That was one fun evening. Good thing the kids are spending the weekend at grandparents."
"Yeah," Ann's husband replied. "It's nice to have a romantic evening out. Especially with such a heroic woman. You certainly earned this evening."
"Well... the only reason I jumped in to save him was because none of those other people would. If someone who could do something was there, I would have let them."
"But then we wouldn't have had our little swim this afternoon, huh?"
"Speaking of the lake, I think we forgot something..."
"If it's something you left there, it's too late to go and get it now."
"It's not that. I was just thinking that, after all the swimming, we never took a shower to rinse off."
Ann's husband, standing in his undershirt and boxers, responded, "I think you're right! Are you thinking what I think you're thinking?"
"Yes!" Ann replied. "Let's take care of that now!"
Without removing any more clothing, they headed for the bathroom, started the shower, got under it, and were instantly soaked again.
"We seem to be stuck in a rut. This is the third time today." Ann commented.
"Yeah, but what a wonderful rut to stuck in. Besides, this time, we can do whatever we want without worrying about someone walking past."
It turned out to be the most enjoyable shower Ann ever experienced. And the rest of the weekend wasn't bad either.
