Now that it was getting warmer out, Leeza Gibbons remembered that she wrote in her office a reminder for a new segment for the show. This idea was on how to prevent drowning while swimming. Leeza’s bosses loved the idea, so they asked Leeza to make some calls to recreational centers and country clubs to see if they would let her film the show there. After a few phone calls which didn’t go as successfully as she hoped, finally she made one more call to an unnamed country club. A woman named Sarah picked up the phone and identified herself as the club’s manager.
Leeza explained to her why she was phoning. Sarah looked at her schedule and realized that she was free that weekend, thus Leeza and her crew could come over and film the show there. Leeza told her boss about the plan and began to write a script on what to say for the show. She was glad that they were able to do the show at the county club as opposed to a stretch of beach near the lake, or even the ocean to avoid the possibility of dealing with a riptide during filming.
As she and her husband got ready for bed after spending a quiet evening at home with the kids, they talked about how she was visiting the country club that weekend for the show. Since her husband had made the suggestion to her, she thought that he could be her assistant on the show. He looked at his schedule and realized that he was free to help out.
The next few days were pretty quiet, Leeza spent the last few days writing a script for the show. Finally, the weekend came and Leeza and her husband woke up on the morning of the assignment to an empty house. Her kids stayed over with friends the previous evening and Leeza had no idea when they’d be home. After having themselves a bowl of cereal the two of them got dressed for the assignment. Leeza went for a nice looking dark mid-thigh knee length slit skirt, with a dark grey short sleeve blouse. On her feet were a pair of white high heels. Leeza chose that particular outfit because not only was it nice enough for her to wear it on the show, but it was also washable, so it wouldn’t get wrecked while she was swimming in the pool. She then reasoned that if her outfit did get wrecked the company would place the cost for her outfit on the expense account. She also reasoned that her outfit was appropriate enough for the hot weather. Leeza then thought to herself that it’s a good day for swimming.
Her husband got dressed in a white short-sleeve shirt and light green men’s swim shorts with a single yellow stripe. On his feet were a pair of maroon sandals. Since her segment involved a live demonstration on how to prevent drowning her husband chose to dress as though he was going for a swim at the beach. After making sure that Leeza had her script, the two of them drove off.
As it turned out, the country club was only an hour away from the house. After parking the car in at the club’s parking lot, she could see that the van that her film crew used was already parked at the club, indicating that they were already here.
They walked right into the building. Inside the building was a plain looking slender woman around the age of forty with dark brown hair in a ponytail, dressed in a yellow polo shirt with navy blue shorts, white socks and white sneakers. When she saw the couple and asked them “Can I help you?” Leeza then introduced herself and her husband, she then explained that she was supposed to meet a woman named Sarah, the club’s manager and they were here to film a segment at the club about drowning prevention. The woman in the polo shirt then said to her “That’s me you’re looking for. The film crew is waiting for you outside. Follow me.”
She led the couple to the country club’s swimming pool. As they walked together Leeza filled Sarah in on the details of the segment, and asked if she could help out as well. Sarah agreed to help out.
When they arrived at the pool, they saw that the crew were getting ready for filming. Leeza then made sure that the audio and visual equipment were working. Everything seemed to be fine on her end so she started filming.
“People of any age, whether they’re an adult or a child, can easily drown. Unfortunately, a lot of drownings occur with children under the age of 14. And in this segment I will, with the help of my two assistants, demonstrate to you three different methods of how to help someone when drowning. Because drowning unfortunately can happen in just a matter of minutes.” The camera then turned toward Leeza’s husband and Sarah who each waved a hand, as Leeza explained what they were to do for the segment.
The camera then stopped filming, this gave Leeza’s husband a chance to silently enter the pool, after he removed his shirt and shoes. He then swam close to the edge of the pool. While he was doing that Sarah grabbed a long metal pole with a hook at the end and walked back towards Leeza. Leeza indicated to the cameraman to start filming. He did so and Leeza said into the camera “When your drowning victim is close to the water’s edge it is recommended that you use this pole here to bring them in.”
Leeza then passed Sarah the microphone that she was using and Sarah gave Leeza the pole. She then spread her legs so she could make sure that she was in a firm enough stance, and by using all of her strength she brought her husband out of the water. Filming ended again when he was out of the water.
As Leeza’s husband jumped back into the pool he swam a bit further away and floated on his back. As this happened Sarah replaced the pole with a ring shaped buoy. Once more Leeza indicated to the cameraman to start filming; he did so again for the second time. This time Leeza said into the camera “When your victim is a bit further away from you, but not too far away, you can use a buoy to bring them in.” Once more Leeza then passed Sarah the microphone, and this time she was given the ring shaped buoy. She then tossed him the buoy. After making sure that once again she was in a firm enough stance, she then pulled him closer to the edge with a rope that was attached to the buoy. When her husband got out of the pool filming ended again.
Leeza then gave the buoy back to Sarah who then put the buoy away with the metal pole. Leeza’s husband once more jumped back into the pool. Once he was further away from the edge of the pool, he began to do a Deadman’s Float. Leeza then indicated for the last time to the cameraman to start filming. He did so once more. Leeza then said into the camera “When your victim is floating like this and they don’t respond, the only thing you can do is jump in to save them.”
She then passed her equipment over to Sarah. Leeza then took a deep breath and jumped into the pool without removing her shoes. Once she surfaced she kept her legs moving as one normally does for swimming. Leeza hoped that the cameraman doesn’t accidentally shoot an image of her underwear sticking through her skirt. Luckily today she was wearing a dark pair of underwear so there wouldn’t be that big of a problem. She knew for sure that her husband wouldn’t be any danger, he could hold his breath for over a minute. While she was swimming over to her husband she could feel her skirt riding up on her but she didn’t mind at all.
As soon as she swam closer to her husband she grabbed his arm with one hand and started swimming with the other hand, she then brought her husband towards the steps of the pool. She pulled her husband out of the pool, and made sure that he was lying down on his back. After getting out of the pool Sarah then handed Leeza her equipment. She then spoke into the camera.
“After bringing the victim to shore, watch for any symptoms of hypothermia, such as constant shivering. If the victim is having trouble breathing, you may have to do CPR. This involves chest compressions, as well as a possibility of mouth to mouth resuscitation. Here’s how you do it.” She placed the heel of her right hand over her husband’s breastbone. She also made sure that she was at most 2 finger-widths above the meeting area of her husband’s lower ribs. She then began doing chest compressions. After a few minutes her husband was fine. Looking back at the camera she said “Hopefully these tips will be beneficial for you someday, you never know whose life you’ll save. I want to thank my wonderful assistants for helping me out here.”
Leeza then watch the film crew pack up all of their equipment and leave. Sarah then looked at Leeza and said to her “I think you did a good job out there today Leeza.”
Leeza smiled and said “Thanks. I was just wondering since I’m already soaked and that water was rather refreshing on a warm day, would it be alright if I went back in the pool for a bit?” Sarah couldn’t see any harm in that at all.
Leeza then removed her shoes and walked over to the diving board and dove in. Once she surfaced she realized that her husband had now joined in in the water. As they were swimming on their backs Leeza looked at her skirt and liked how it was moving in the water. She then slicked back her wet hair and began to tread water.
Sarah then asked them “Would the two of you like some company here? That water does seem inviting.”
Leeza then looked at her and answered “Sure. I don’t mind at all. It is rather inviting.”
Sarah then removed her socks and shoes and jumped in. As Sarah swam closer to Leeza and her husband he asked her, “Would the owner mind if you went swimming with us today? Don’t you have anything else to work on today?”
She looked at him and replied back “Not really, the only work I have to worry about is paperwork. And that I could do later. Leeza, I was just pondering about something. What I mean is, have you done this before? In the past I’ve had reporters and TV presenters do something like this before. But everyone just wears swimsuits, not ordinary streetwear like you did.”
Leeza didn’t answer, neither did her husband. As the three of them were having a lot of fun swimming in the water.
Sarah said to them after about half an hour, “It’s getting late; we should get out of the pool now.” Leeza and her husband agreed. The three of them then swam over to the steps of the pool. Leeza’s soaked clothes clung to her body, as she looked at Sarah she could see a similar effect was happening with her wet outfit.
Sarah said to Leeza and to her husband, “I opened up the locker rooms for you both. I even left you both a robe to wear while your stuff dries. All of that chlorine should be rinsed out.”
Leeza and her husband both took off to the locker rooms. As Leeza stood under the showerhead, she didn’t find it unusual to be showering in her outfit, since she’d worn her lace teddy in the shower before. After a few minutes she stripped off her wet clothes and put on the robe. She took off back to the pool, her husband and Sarah were also dressed in a robe. Leeza asked her “Didn’t you have to rinse out the chlorine from your outfit?”
She looked and her said “Not at all, my uniform was washable. I often go swimming in my uniform, so I don’t have to worry about that.”
After about fifteen minutes Leeza’s clothes were dry, as was her husband’s swimsuit. Once the two of them got dressed they met up with Sarah outside the locker rooms. Leeza said to her, “Thanks for letting us film the segment here today. I also want to thank you for letting us go swimming today and for letting me rinse off my outfit.”
Sarah glanced at them and said “You know something, I should be the one thanking you. I seldom get company swimming like that in such a big swimming pool. Hopefully I’ll see you two around.”
As Leeza and her husband left the country club for home she knew that she should try this again sometime. To her it’s just a matter of when and where she’ll do this next.
