In an effort to boost the sagging ratings of the CBS "Early Show", the network decided to send two of the show's personalities on a "meet and greet" trip to an island resort in New England. Jane Clayson, the show's hostess, was of two minds about it when she heard the news. While she enjoyed the idea of a trip, the thought of spending it with Bryant Gumbel dampened her enthusiasm. Ever since the show started, Gumbel was always on Jane's case about something, and now the network wanted her to go on a trip with that conceited ass.
However, things started to look up for Jane. She heard that Gumbel couldn't make the trip for some reason. Now, Jane wondered who would be his substitute. Mark McEwen, the show's entertainment reporter, wouldn't be bad. He was smart (did well on "Jeopardy" once) and was a likeable guy. However, Mark was out in Hollywood interviewing some people about a movie. The question was soon answered when it was announced that Julie Chen, the woman who read the news on the show, would take Bryant's place. "That's cool." Jane thought. She and Julie were friends.
The weekend came and the women took a ferry to the island. Jane was wearing an off-white jacket, skirt, and a white blouse. Julie wore a similar outfit, but her's was dark blue with a white blouse. Since it was a very muggy day, they both decided not to wear pantyhose. Not a big deal, since cameramen hardly paid any attention to their legs. Once there, they set up and did their "meet and greet". Afterwards, they even taped some stories where they visited interesting spots and talked with interesting people on the island for use on later programs.
After exploring the island, the two women got their bags and went to the ferry landing to await the return of the ferry to take them back to the mainland. However, there was some commotion at the docks. Jane asked "What's happening?"
One of the locals answered "The ferry caught fire. Fortunately no one was on board at the time and the firefighters on the mainland were able to extinguish it quickly. But, there will be no ferry service till Monday at the earliest".
This was a problem. Both women had to be back by Sunday at the latest. Jane got out her cell phone and called her bosses to inform them of their plight. The network told Jane in no uncertain terms that there was no money in the budget to hire a helicopter to get them off the island. But they still had to be ready in time for Monday's show. Slamming the phone shut, Jane and Julie realized that they had to solve this puzzle on their own.
At that moment, a voice from behind said "Hi, ladies! What's the problem?" It was Troy, one of the local businessmen they interviewed. Julie then told Troy of the ferry and their travel requirements. "Relax," Troy assured them, "we can sail back on my boat."
Jane replied "That's nice, but we don't have too much money with us, so I'm afraid we can't pay you much for the trip."
"No need." Troy responded. "It's on the house! Meet me at the marina."
Jane and Julie soon arrived at the marina and Troy took them to see his boat. What a fine boat it was. It was at least 45 feet long and had all the conveniences. This was going to be a very comfortable trip.
Troy got onboard and he helped the women get on the boat. It was obvious that he was giving a tiny bit of extra attention to Jane, since she was single, while Julie sported a ring on her finger. After a quick untying of lines, the engines started and the boat began the trip. The two women then retired to the cabins, which were air-conditioned, to sit out the voyage in complete comfort.
Getting comfortable, Jane and Julie removed their jackets and were enjoying some cold drinks. At a bit past the halfway point, it happened. There was a strange noise and the boat came to an immediate halt. The women raced out of the cabin to see what was wrong, but all they could see was Troy looking over the engine. "Damn pump!" he muttered. "Now, we're stuck out here."
Jane, a bit frantic at the news, exclaimed "Call the Coast Guard!"
Troy replied "Yeah, and get robbed on the towing fee? You see, since this is not a life-threatening emergency, they'll refer me to the towing company they have dealings with. I know those guys and they overcharge. I have a better idea." With that, Troy walked over to the radio and contacted someone, evidently a friend, and told him the situation.
"I'm kind of busy right now," the voice on the radio explained, "but I'll get out there some time tonight and should have you at the mainland by morning."
"That will be fine. See you then." Troy then ended the conversation. "Well, it looks like we're going to be here for a while. Unfortunately, without the engine, the only electricity we have onboard is from the batteries. That means I'm going to have to shut the air conditioning off so we have enough to work the lights and radio."
Julie argued "What about the heat today? How are we supposed to survive without the air conditioning?"
Troy looked at the water and mentioned "There's always the ocean. It's a great way to stay cool and the temperature is just right".
Julie shot back "That would be a great idea except for one thing - we didn't bring swimsuits! And, no, we are not skinny-dipping, though you would probably enjoy that."
Troy answered "What you two do is your business. I was only making a suggestion. If you want to muddle through and and try to ignore the heat, that's fine too. As for me..." Troy then removed his shoes, got on the swim platform, and dove in while still wearing his shorts and polo shirt.
Julie told Troy that she was going in the cabin to try to see how to keep the stuff in the refrigerator cool and also to enjoy the last of the cool air before it heated up. Jane was watching Troy in the water. She knew he was right about cooling off in the ocean, but she didn't have any swimwear. Her underwear might pass as a bikini, but it might be too translucent or it might send the wrong message. Jane liked Troy, but she wanted to know him better before pursuing any sort of a relationship.
Glancing at the swim platform, Jane got an idea. She removed her shoes then sat down on the platform to dangle her feet into the calm water. That way, she could get some relief from the heat, yet keep her clothes dry. As she put her feet in the water, she realized Troy was right. The water was perfect. By now, she was practically kicking herself for not bringing a swimsuit. If only she had thought...
Troy, seeing Jane sitting on the platform, struck up a conversation. After discussing likes and dislikes, Jane thought Troy was a rather nice guy and maybe worth dating - after this situation was over. At one point, Troy asked "How long can you hold your breath?"
Jane replied "Huh? Maybe almost a minute. I don't know."
Troy answered "I can do a shade over three minutes."
"No way! You're pulling my leg!"
"While I would love to do that in the literal sense and pull you in with me, I won't. However, I can really hold my breath that long. Why don't you watch me?"
"I can't time you," Jane explained, "since I'm not wearing a watch."
Troy piped up "That's okay. I'll use mine. Now, 1-2-3" Troy then went into a deadman's float with his head submerged. At the one minute mark, he raised his hand as a time signal.
Meanwhile, Julie was getting out of the cabin and looked towards the water. She saw Troy floating face-down and feared the worst. Kicking off her shoes, Julie leaped onto the transom in a single bound, then dove into the water, still in her blouse and skirt.
Hearing the commotion, Troy surfaced just as Julie reached him. "Couldn't resist, could you?"
Julie angrily shouted "No! I thought you were drowning and tried to save you! What the hell is going on?"
Troy explained "All I was doing was giving Jane a demonstration of my breathholding skill. If you had only asked Jane first, you would have saved yourself some trouble. But, I bet you are feeling much cooler now."
As she was treading water, Julie realized Troy was right. She did feel much more comfortable in the water than she did on the boat. But there was much more. She had never gone swimming like this before and the sensations were new. She could feel the water moving in her blouse and also the blouse moving against her slender body. Her skirt was bobbing at nearly upper-thigh level and caressing her legs. This was fun. Then Julie realized her outfit might be ruined. But nothing could be done about that. She then glanced down and was shocked. Her blouse had gone totally translucent and her white bra was clearly visible. Instinctively, she crossed her arms across her front, nearly slipping underwater in the process.
"Relax." Troy responded "Have you seen what they wear to the beaches around here? What you have on there would be considered very conservative. And then you have your translucent blouse blurring the details and ensuring that there is no show-through. Curiously, you actually look better in the water like this than if you were wearing a real swimsuit. I guess it is the spontaneity and the 'naughty' aspect."
Julie lightened up and let her arms go back to helping stay afloat. She thought about what Troy said. She did look great. Her slicked-back hair combined with her Asian features only added to her unexpected beauty.
However, Julie still wanted to get back at Jane for not telling her about Troy's stunt. But how? Going up and pushing or pulling her off the swim platform wouldn't work. Besides, Troy wouldn't do that. He was trying so hard to impress Jane, so he wouldn't lay a hand on her. There had to be a better way. Then Julie got an idea. She turned to Troy and said "Want to have some fun?"
Troy replied "Sure! What do you have in mind?"
"Just follow my lead..." Julie then swam to the platform and climbed out, with Troy coming up behind.
Seeing this, Jane started to leave. "Don't worry," Troy assured her, "we won't push you in. I am not going to touch you without your consent and I won't let Julie shove you either."
Jane responded "That's a relief. I was afraid I was going to get a dunking. You two are not going to drip on my outfit or make me sit in a wet spot on the platform."
Julie answered "No way. In fact, we aren't even going to stand on the swim platform." With that, Julie stood on the transom, leaped out, and did a cannonball into the water. The jump had the desired effect and the splash hit Jane. Jane was surveying the huge wet spots on her outfit when Troy did his own cannonball. Since he was a bigger person, the splash was much bigger and the front of Jane's outfit was soaked.
Looking over her wet outfit, Jane said "You win." and then she slid herself off the swim platform into the water. Her outfit behaved in a similar fashion to Julie's and, like Julie, Jane panicked when she realized her blouse went translucent too. However, seeing Julie swimming around totally unconcerned put Jane's mind at ease. The water felt wonderful and the sensation of her clothes rubbing against her body were new, exciting, and very pleasant. If only she had known about this sooner...
Troy told Jane and Julie "Since it was my breathholding stunt that was the start of all this, why don't I teach you two how to improve your skills in this area?" Jane and Julie, who were now starting to enjoy their unplanned swim and getting accustomed to swimming in their suits, found the idea appealing. After a few short exercises, our two heroines almost doubled the amount of time they could spend submerged.
With their newly improved skill and now that their eyes were getting used to the salt water, Jane and Julie went free-diving in the clear ocean with Troy. Troy was admiring the view of these two lovely ladies frolicking underwater and trying simple aquabatics. By now, Jane and Julie's blouses became untucked and started moving around, revealing generous amounts of trim midriffs. Their skirts were also in motion and occasionally revealed a very brief glimpse of their panties.
Meanwhile, the ladies were sizing up Troy. His polo shirt accentuated his build and the shorts rode up a little to reveal a tiny bit more of his muscular legs. Already, fantasies were running through Jane's mind about what she and Troy would do if they were out here all alone...
Troy soon swam back to the boat and got onboard to check things out, while the ladies continued their swimming. Some time later, the wind started to pick up and clouds started appearing. "Ladies!" Troy shouted "Time to get out of the water!" Heeding his advice, Jane and Julie quickly made for the swim platform and climbed out. As they emerged, their wet outfits clung to their slender bodies very closely, revealing their figures completely.
"That was fun!" Julie exclaimed. "Now, how do we rinse the salt off of our clothes? I assume that the showers are turned off like the air conditioning."
Troy looked at the now overcast sky and answered "Wait."
Within seconds, the sky opened up and a torrential downpour began. Seeing what Troy meant, Jane and Julie stood and let the rain rinse them off. Since this storm was the result of a cold front, the water was very cool, almost cold. But, with the way Jane and Troy were feeling, a cold shower was what the doctor ordered.
Troy looked around and wondered aloud "When is that bilge pump going to kick in?" With this heavy rainfall, it was inevitable that some of it would wind up in the boat. If this rain continued for too long, and if the pumped failed, they'd be in big trouble. But, just as the rain began to subside, the pump kicked in and pumped out what little of the rain made it to the bilge.
With the rain over, Troy went inside and came back with two towels and two bathrobes. Taking the towels, Jane and Julie dried off the best they could. Then they grabbed the bathrobes and went into their staterooms to get out of their wet outfits. Hanging their clothes to dry, the women exited the staterooms clad in their somewhat oversized bathrobes.
Troy was waiting for them with some sandwiches and drinks. "The best I could do for dinner, I'm afraid. But after today's swim, I'm sure you're both hungry." The trio then eagerly devoured the meal.
By now it was dark. Since Jane and Julie work on a network morning show, their bodies were on a different schedule, and since there was nothing to do, they decided to hit the hay. As Jane fell asleep, her dreams were of aquatic fun with Troy.
Morning came and so did a loud knocking on the door. "Ladies! Wake up and get decent! We'll be arriving at the dock soon!" The tow boat arrived late last night and was now pulling Troy's boat to the dock on the mainland. Jane and Julie found that their clothes had dried and appeared none the worse for the experience. They quickly got dressed and were ready when the boat arrived at dock.
As they got out of the boat and were walking down the dock, Troy suggested "How about breakfast - my treat?" Soon, our trio entered a nearby restaurant and had breakfast. After the meal, Julie turned to Troy and said "Thanks for helping us out. We had a great time and you were a perfect gentlemen." She then gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and walked back to her car.
When Julie left, Jane went up and thanked Troy. "I had an excellent time! If you are in New York, here's my number" Jane handed him a piece of paper. "Also, I plan on coming back here on vacation. Perhaps we can have some more fun. I have a few outfits at home that you might like to see me swim in."
"I'm looking forwards to it!" responded Troy. Then they kissed goodbye and Jane went back to her car, all the while anticipating what wet adventures she might have with Troy when they next meet.
However, things started to look up for Jane. She heard that Gumbel couldn't make the trip for some reason. Now, Jane wondered who would be his substitute.
